Artist Statement

I am a Black woman. An educator. A dance artist. A feminist. A dance anthropologist. I am all of these things in one, and all are integral to my art making.

I explore the culture of a dance form. I investigate where it came from and why it emerged. I am captivated by history and anthropology, tying these two elements into my work whether it be teaching or choreographing.

I make art that reflects a cultural experience. I teach culture through dance in hopes that we are able to further understand one another.

I am a Black woman. An educator. A dance artist. A feminist. A dance anthropologist. I am all of these things in one, and all are integral to my art making.
